SPECIAL INFORMATION
Read the enclosed patient brochure that accompanies your prescription. Shake metered dose inhaler well before use and to prime prior to first use and whenever albuterol inhaler has not been used in the previous two weeks. Prime the inhaler by releasing four sprays into the air away from your face. Oral forms should be administered with water one hour before or two hours after a meal.

When given by inhaler as done for asthma, it has no effect on skeletal muscle. However, as reported in Neurology, a slow-release oral preparation of albuterol has been shown to improve symptoms of MD in children in a small pilot study over three months. The children taking albuterol showed improvements in muscle strength, mostly in their thigh, compared to those taking placebo. Other studies have shown that it may lead to growth of muscle tissue. However, no benefit was found in muscle function tests. The researchers recommended longer-term studies.
